SPINNING yarn

I like to work on spinning at night after I get Freya in bed.  It is very relaxing and I don't have to deal with her tiny hands trying to spin the wheel or pull on the drive band.  My latest projects have been this beautiful alpaca/silk noil blend and a luxurious merino/silk blend.

I picked up the alpaca blend (and two other blends that I have not spun yet) from a vendor at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, OR last June.  It was my first fiber festival and it was everything I hoped it would be and more!  The alpaca was super soft and fun to spin.  The noils were a little challenging to keep from getting clumped in one spot.  I love the silvery colors of the alpaca fiber and the way the silk noils look like flecks of snow.

The second fiber I spun was a merino/silk blend that I got at a cute knitting shop in Bandon, OR (our family vacation destination this summer).  This color is one of my favorites.  Something about that seafoam green just draws me in.  The fiber was a little difficult to spin at first because the silk was so slippery.  After a while I got the hang of it.

Now it's time to figure out a purpose for my new yarn!
