SEWING - Fox Plush

Years ago I bought a burnt-orange, wool sweater from a thrift store.  I loved it and I wore it through most of college.  That is, I wore it until I accidentally tossed it in the dryer and it shrunk.  I still tried to squeeze into it though.  Something about that rust color spoke to me and I could not bring myself to throw it out.  It ended up hanging in my closet, waiting.  One day I had an idea.  I wanted to make a plush fox out of the felted wool.  I had another sweater in my don't-wear pile, it was off-white and cabled and would be perfect for the fox's tummy.  With this plan for my old sweaters, I tossed them in my WIP stash and they hung out there for a few years.  That is typical for my projects that are "great ideas" but I have no clue what to do next and I would rather work on another project.

This last summer I felt motivated and went for it.  I tried sketching a few shapes for the fox, but in the end I found a free template online.  I followed the tutorial making a few modifications of my own.  First modification, I converted the front side template to be one solid piece.  No separate pieces for the head, body and tail, thank you.  Second modification, I did not stitch the little white lines.  I just didn't want to.  Third modification, I continued the white section on the tail onto the back so that it continues all the way around the tail.  That would be it.  I do not necessarily think my modifications make it better, they just make the fox my style and what I had imagined.

I love my fox.  I have only a few stuffed animals that I keep for myself and this is one.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
