KNIT - Hats and Headbands
Hats and headbands are a definite go-to for making gifts. They are usually easy to make as well as rewarding and versatile. Every year I make a few and this year I made them for my brother's family as well as for my sister-in-law.
For my brother and his toddler son, I wanted to make them matching hats. I was stash busting, so I improvised and made them almost matching instead of exactly matching. Once again it is really hard finding manly patterns (slippers, hats, any of them!) so I tried my own hand at designing a pattern and this is the result. I got the Jake stamp of approval so I suppose I passed. I will have to keep an eye out to see if my brother actually wears his hat, then I get a double pass.
For my brother's wife and two daughters, I made them all matching headbands. This pattern is super simple and super easy. I estimated on the lengths for the kids and used Freya's head as a reference to make sure they will fit. I enjoyed knitting these because they gave me a break from thinking and I could let my needles fly.
On Jake's side of the family, everyone is assigned one person to get a gift for Christmas. I was given my sister-in-law and knew immediately that I would knit her a headband. While browsing patterns on Ravelry, I found this pattern and fell in love. Like the other headbands, this was super simple and easy to make. It is great for practicing cables if you are new at that! I love how it turned out and I will probably be making another for myself soon.
