KNIT - Cabled Cardigan
This project has been in the works for years. I found the book Boyfriend Sweaters shortly after I learned out how to knit, around four years ago, and really liked the cabled cardigan pattern. I don't know what it was about that pattern but it drew me in. At this point, I think the attraction is gone- I'm just glad to have finally finished it! Two years ago I committed to making the sweater. It was going to be a Christmas present for my husband. I bought the yarn and it sat, and waited, and waited. Christmas came and went and I felt guilty so I knitted a swatch. Then we moved and it got shoved in a box and stuffed in a corner. It was still on my radar, but so were a million other things.
In July we moved again and I decided to re-commit myself to this sweater and brought it with me in my suitcase while the rest of my supplies waited to be shipped. I started knitting and made enormous progress. But I realized something was off. It was coming out way too small. Maybe it would fit me, but definitely not Jake. I knit a new swatch and look at that, I upped my needles a couple sizes, knit another swatch then stuffed it all in my project bag because I was frustrated and not ready to frog and start over. But I did and I'm glad.
After that hiccup, I started working on the sweater again. I would work on it in phases. Get really into it for a few weeks and then set it aside for a month. Then Christmas started approaching and it was set aside for a few months. This last month, I finally decided that it was time. It was now or never. Let's do it! Let's finish this project and be proud! I started taking progress photos on Instagram and that has helped me feel motivated. I have to make some progress otherwise everyone will know that I haven't been working on it (at least all my followers will). Once I seamed it all together and it only needed buttons, Jake started getting interested. I had to to go to the store to pick out buttons and everyday he would ask if it was done yet. That also pushed me to hurry up and finish. Jake was really excited about it. As soon as I finished it, he put it on and hasn't taken it off since. I call that a success!
